Free means free here
Many free QR code generators are free only until you download, or they quietly make a short link that stops working when a trial ends. This one makes a static code: the content is inside the code itself, so it works forever with no account, no watermark, no ads when people scan it and no expiry.
You still get the design tools people usually pay for: colors and gradients, rounded or dotted modules, round corners, your own logo in the middle, a frame with a label such as Scan me, and downloads as PNG up to 2048 px, SVG, EPS for print shops and a print ready PDF. A built in scan check reads the finished code back, so you know it works before you print it.
How WhatsApp click to chat works
WhatsApp supports links in the form wa.me followed by a phone number in full international format. Opening one starts a chat with that number without saving it as a contact first. This tool builds that link and turns it into a QR code.
Add a first message to tell you where the person came from, such as the name of an event, a product or a flyer. It saves both of you a step and helps you sort new conversations.
Number formats around the world
Pick the country and type the number the way people write it locally. The tool adds the country code, drops the leading zero and removes spaces, brackets and dashes:
| Country | Written locally | Link |
|---|---|---|
| United States | (555) 123-4567 | wa.me/15551234567 |
| United Kingdom | 020 7946 0000 | wa.me/442079460000 |
| India | 098765 43210 | wa.me/919876543210 |
| Brazil | (11) 91234-5678 | wa.me/5511912345678 |
| Germany | 0151 23456789 | wa.me/4915123456789 |
| Australia | 0412 345 678 | wa.me/61412345678 |
Pasting a full number that starts with a plus sign, such as +1 555 123 4567, works too, and the country picker is ignored. The chat preview shows the exact number the chat opens with.
First messages that work
A ready made first message gets more people to press send. Some starting points:
- Real estate: Hi, I saw your sign on Oak Street. Is the house still available?
- Restaurant: Hi, I would like to order for pickup.
- Salon or studio: Hi, I would like to book an appointment this week.
- Home services: Hi, I need a quote. My address is
- Events: Hi, I met you at the expo and would like more details.
- Online shop: Hi, I have a question about my order.
Formatting the message
WhatsApp formats text with simple markers, and the buttons above the message box add them for you:
| Style | Type | Shows as |
|---|---|---|
| Bold | *open house* | open house, in bold |
| Italic | _this weekend_ | this weekend, in italics |
| Strikethrough | ~sold out~ | sold out, crossed out |
| Monospace | ```ORDER 1042``` | ORDER 1042, in a fixed width font |
How the message changes the code
The message is part of the link, so a longer message makes a denser code. Real codes made with this tool:
| What is in the code | Size | Plain code | With a logo | Smallest print width |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Number only | 25 bytes | 25 by 25 squares | 33 by 33 squares | 1.3 cm (0.5 in) |
| Number and a 45 character message | 95 bytes | 41 by 41 squares | 53 by 53 squares | 2 cm (0.8 in) |
For small stickers and business cards, keep the message short. On signs, use the distance table below.
How big to print it
| Where people scan from | Typical place | Print the code at least |
|---|---|---|
| 30 cm (1 foot) | Business card, flyer, menu in hand | 3 cm (1.2 in) |
| 60 cm (2 feet) | Table tent, counter card | 6 cm (2.4 in) |
| 1 m (3 feet) | Wall sign, booth table | 10 cm (4 in) |
| 2 m (6 feet) | Poster, door sign, roll up banner | 20 cm (8 in) |
| 5 m (16 feet) | Shop window, stage screen | 50 cm (20 in) |
Put the code on shop windows, delivery bags, flyers, property signs and business cards, and use the link itself in your social bios, email signature and website contact page.
Frequently asked questions
Does the link work on a computer?
Yes. On a computer the link opens WhatsApp Web or the WhatsApp desktop app with the chat ready, so you can also put it on your website and in your email signature.
Can I put a WhatsApp QR code on a business card?
Yes. Keep the message short so the code stays small: a number only code prints well from about 1.3 cm (0.5 in) wide. To share WhatsApp, phone and email together, use a digital card.
Can I use bold text and emoji in the message?
Yes. The formatting buttons add the same markers WhatsApp uses, and emoji work in the link and the QR code. The chat preview shows how it will look.
Can I add my logo and change the design?
Yes, for free. Pick a theme or set your own colors, dot style, corner style, logo and frame label. The scan check under the preview tells you if a design gets too hard to read.
Which file should I send to a print shop?
Send the SVG or the EPS. Both are vector files that stay sharp at any size. The EPS keeps colors and shapes but leaves out a logo or gradient, so use the SVG for those designs.
Is this WhatsApp link generator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no account, and the links and codes never expire.
Does it work with WhatsApp Business numbers?
Yes. Click to chat links work with regular and WhatsApp Business numbers.
Does the person need to save my number first?
No. The link opens a chat with your number straight away.
Can I change the first message later?
The message is part of the link. Make a new link and code if you want a different message.
